UK Hotel Chains in Administration

English Rose Hotels

English Rose Hotels were a privately owned family business with a unique portfolio of quality hotels based mostly around key locations in Yorkshire. The company went into administration in 2011 and the hotels will be sold as going concerns. These include the Clifton Hotel, Hackness Grange Hotel, The Royal Hotel and the Wrea Head Hotel.

Eton Collection

Eton Collection were Luxury Boutique Hotels in London, Leeds and Edinburgh. The hotels are Quebecs in Leeds, the Glasshouse in Edinburgh and three London hotels - the Academy, the Colonnade and Threadneedles.

Eton Hotel Group went into administration in June 2010 and the hotels were bought out of administration in December 2010 by the US-based Westmont Hospitality Group who own more than 500 hotels in Europe, North America and Asia. Westmont Hospitality Group is one of the largest franchisees of InterContinental and Hilton hotels worldwide and also works with Starwood, Accor, Wyndham, Choice Hotels and Best Western.

Folio Hotels

Folio Hotels were a collection of over 30 three and four star hotels, with locations across the UK offering a group of traditionally run, individual hotels. Folio Hotels went into Administration in January 2009 and the majority of the hotels are now run by Akkeron Hotels and Bespoke Hotels.

Pedersen Hotels

Pedersen Hotel collection consists of 4 star hotels offering modern day facilities in contemporary surroundings with dedicated staff and great service.

Pedersen Hotel Group went into administration in July 2010 and the individual hotels have been sold as going concerns. The Novotel Bristol Centre, the Crowne Plaza Reading, the Regency Park hotel Newbury and the Winchester hotel are likely to remain under their current brandings while the Sheffield Park is due to re-brand as Hilton Doubletree

Purple Hotels

Purple Hotels specialised in relatively inexpensive hotels, feature rich with large en-suite rooms, air-conditioning and walk in luxury power showers. Unfortunately the company went into administration in January 2008.

Ramada Jarvis

Ramada Jarvis were a hotel management group who operated a number of franchised 3 star and 4 star hotels in popular locations across the UK. They have had a difficult time in recent years and in early 2011 a number of Ramada Hotels changed Management Company going to BDL Hotels where they continue to trade under the Ramada Brands (Franchised from Wyndham Hotel Group).

Ramada Jarvis went into administration on the 30th September 2011, however a new joint venture called Jupiter Hotels took over the day to day running of many of the hotels which rebranded as Mercure Hotels (Franchised from the Accor Hotel Group).

Please Note: This affects individual hotels, the various Ramada Brands remain unaffected.

Stop inns

Stop Inns were a small group of 2 and 3 star hotels based in the Midlands and Northern England. Unfortunately the Real Hotel Company who owned the hotels entered into administration in January 2009 and the hotels were closed. Following a refurbishment program some of these hotels have re-opened, but under new branding.

Venture Hotels

Venture Hotels were a small group of independent leisure and business hotels located in the North West of England

Von Essen

Von Essen hotels were a private collection of individual luxury Country House Hotels in the UK and France, each with a distinctive style and character, many were branded under the Relais and Chateaux Brand.

On the 20th April 2011 Von Essen Hotels holding company went into administration with debts of more than £250m. The 28 hotels in the group, including Cliveden in Berkshire, the Royal Crescent in Bath and Amberley Castle in West Sussex will continue to trade as normal.

On the 3rd May 2011 Von Essen administrators closed the Hunstrete House Hotel near Bath. The hotel had been operating at a loss for some time and had only been able to continue trading with Von Essen's support. Guests at Hunstrete House have been moved to nearby hotels.
