Car Rental Tips:
Don't forget the First tip - "Don't Panic"!
New laws have been put in place from June 2015 that mean your paper Counterpart Driving Licence is no longer valid!
When hiring a car now you will need to get a 'check code' from the DVLA which enables someone to see what vehicles you are entitled to drive and any endorsements you may have.
It is simple to do, but the code is only valid for 72 hours

Driving Licence Information
Selling consumers additional insurance coverage, often unnecessarily duplicating coverage they already have, is one of the major gripes against car rental companies who often use this subterfuge at the collection desk to increase the cost of the rental.
Before you pay a lot for insurance it is worth checking out what your current car insurance covers and
whether the credit card (that you will use to make the booking) offers complimentary insurance.
(Don't forget to take the paperwork with you!).
Car rental companies have been known in the past to bill more than one customer for the same damage, so make sure you protect yourself from these car rental scams.
When you receive your car be sure to make notes on the rental agreement of any damage you observe and make sure that you not only sign it, but that you have someone from the rental agency sign the form.
This will protect you from being blamed for damages that were already on the car when you received it, and it will also communicate to the car rental agency that you are not someone who will be easy to scam.
Check for hidden damage (eg scratches under the bumpers, bonnet, boot lids...) and be especially vigilant when checking at night time
and cars parked near to other cars/objects that make it difficult to see around the car easily.
General advice to consumers hiring cars is, where possible, to return the car to someone in the office, get them to check the car and sign it off as in good condition.
If you have to leave the car without signing it over, take some photos - showing that it was returned in good condition.
(Return it Clean and Tidy!)
And on the subject of returns check the small print.
For instance, you may have been told that you could return the car on Monday but the car rental company didn’t tell you that if you didn’t have the car in by noon that you would be subject to an hourly charge until you return it....
When you rent a car petrol can be a sticking point.
Most car rental firms require that you have a full tank when you return the car, otherwise you are subject to a fee.
When you receive your payment invoice check the list of charges and make sure that you are not being charged a fill up fee.
Many times this fee is small enough so you may not even notice that you are being charged for it....
And when all is said and done, read the small print!
