The Republic of San Marino, also known as the Most Serene Republic of San Marino is an enclaved microstate surrounded by Italy, situated on the Italian Peninsula on the north-eastern side of the Apennine Mountains.
As a continuation of the monastic community founded in 301 San Marino is one of the oldest surviving sovereign states and constitutional republics in the world.
